Globalisation is the increasing interconnectivity worldwide
and has resulted in the free flow of money, ideas and culture across the countries.
The four global dimensions that globalization haveG1
are economy, ecology, culture, and G2 politics.
In the
upcoming paragraphs I will be discussing how the two items I have selected from
each group is an example of globalization, there connection with the four G3 aspects
of this phenomenon and what effect they have on the residents, costumers,
nations, or suppliers.G4 G5

From group one, G6 the
product I have selected is electronic device and the company I choose is
Samsung. Samsung is a multinational electronic device company, it started its
operations in South Korea in 1938 and during the 1960s G7 became
the first Korean company to expand overseas. According to Interbrand
Corporation, the company Samsung is the fastest growing G8 global
brand This company is global in scale and has more than 285 foreign setups in
67 countries. The company has divided its operations into five regional
divisions that are China, Europe, England, Japan and the Americas. Apart from
this, Samsung is being successful in developing a partnership with Microsoft,
Dell, IBM, HP, Intel and Sony which give them the advantages like reducing
risks, starting new ventures and maintaining constant stocks globally. These
investments and alliances have G9 G10 helped Samsung electronics to get
identification of the fastest growing global trademark.G11

Samsung connection with the four dimensions of globalization is explained in this
paragraph. The first dimension is economic,G12 G13  which is crucial for Samsung. As the
company expands it needs to focus on the economic factor of emerging markets.
Also, the global economy crisis G14 is a challenge for Samsung, as the buying
ability of consumers is reducing, the company had to find a lucrative solution
for the situation.G15  In political areas, Companies should have
knowledge of the regulations of the countries it is investing. It is because different
government imposes different policies for foreign brands to enter the G16 market. Although, most of the political
environments are favorable to Samsung, still is facing political unsteadiness
in different regions like India, South Korea, Latin American, African countries
G17 and it is facing the challenge that war
would start in the Korean Peninsula. Another aspect is culture, Samsung is a
family owned multinational, therefore it is having a root of Korean culture.
However, Samsung being an international brand should customize its products
according to the local customer preferences. Focusing on the ecological component, Samsung Electronics
has introduced a policy called Eco-Management 2020, G18 that helps to control GHG levels at
different levels of production. It is ceaselessly working on making
energy-efficient products and increasing the sustainability level of their
products.  G19 G20 G21 G22 G23

Samsung is a global brand and have different impacts on the
different market groups worldwide. Due to its homogeneous workforce, Samsung
employs people with different nationalities and prove to be a great source of
employment for the residents of the different countries. Also, G24 Samsung has adopted an interesting way to train
their employs according to which the company sends their potential employees to
the different countries to have degrees, like a degree of engineering from
Japan or Finance from New York. Hence, globalization aids the G25 G26 G27 Samsung employs to enhance their skills.  G28

Another item I choose from the group is toys and the toy I
choose is Barbie doll. Barbie was created in 1959 by Ruth Handler. It was based on a German
Lilli- Bild Doll and was first exhibited at the International Toy Convention.G29  With its introduction, Barbie becamG30 e popular globally and is now in more than
140 countries. Originally, Barbie was made in Hong Kong, but in 1980s
manufacturing operations began in the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand. By
1990s the production shifted to Indonesia, and then in 2007 China became its
manufacturing site.G31 G32 G33

 Initially, Barbie
stayed the same, but with its introduction in different nations its
characteristics changed and now there are dolls from almost all the cultures G34 including an Islamic, Indian, and African
American Barbie dolls.

Focusing
on the globalization dimension of Barbie dolls Economically Barbie accounts for
nearly 35 percent of the Asian and American toy industry.G35 G36  The company has also established its plants in
locations where manufacturing cost is less. And for attracting foreign
investment concessions in taxes and favors in duties are given to investors.
Politically, globalization of Barbie dolls has G37 helped to bridge the gap between different
countries culture as the dolls wear different traditional dresses from different countries.
Socially, these dolls were considered a pernicious gender role. Due to its
physical appearance and fashionable clothes are consider setting a wrong
image of a perfect girl and hence parents were reluctant to
let their kid play with a toy like this. Though its multicultural and
independent girl characters have helped this to portray a strong woman image
which is a positive aspect. Ecological dimension for Barbie is a challenge for
the company as it is G38 made from plastic, earlier plasticizer was used for
Barbie manufacturing but because of new stringent environmental laws, the
ingredients were changed. Now it is made from PVC although it considers aG39 G40  recyclable polymer still the emission of
chemical flumes is a problem with the process.G41 G42 G43 G44 G45 G46

For residents although Barbie production gives employment
opportunities to the dwellers still as discussed, the Barbie is made of
plastic, its plants release toxic chemicals and hence if built near residential
areas can create similar problems. Similarly, for employees working in the
factory, it’s harmful. For the buyers, though it’s created for children as a
toy to play,G47 G48 G49
mothers are worried that set unrealistic expectation in the mind of girls of
their own physical appearance. However, a counter-argument state that it helps
the girls to be creative and also as Barbie has so many different career roles,
G50 it inspires them that they can become
whatever they want.  G51  G52 G53
